The Rosette Nebula (NGC 2244)
Behold a colossal, flower-shaped molecular cloud blooming 5,200 light-years away in the constellation Monoceros. At its heart lies NGC 2244, a cluster of young, hot stars whose fierce stellar winds have carved out a massive central cavity, ionizing the surrounding hydrogen gas into deep ruby-red “petals.”
