Stephan's Quintet (HCG 92) is a striking visual grouping of five galaxies in Pegasus, representing the first compact group ever discovered. While five are visible, only four are locked in a violent gravitational dance, tearing gas and stars from one another. At the heart of the collision, NGC 7318B is currently plowing into the group at two million miles per hour, creating one of the largest shockwaves ever observed in deep space.
