Welcome to Dwarfvision, my collective launchpad for exploring the universe! I'm Duncan, your guide on this cosmic adventure. As an Astro-nut & Amateur Photographer, I am thrilled with the stunning possibilities unlocked by the versatile Dwarflab Dwarf telescopes. What wonders can we uncover?
My fascination with the cosmos began early. For my 15th birthday, a small telescope revealed the moon as a world filled with craters, igniting my passion. A year later, my parents gifted me an 8" Newtonian scope, and I started exploring nebulae and deep-sky objects from our home's dark skies in Aromas, California. Joining my father at the Santa Cruz Astronomy Club, we proudly called ourselves "Astro-nuts," celebrating both our love for astronomy and the spirit of exploration.
I always admired the stunning astrophotography published online and in magazines. Despite owning an 11" Meade SCT at one point, the hefty investment in traditional astrophotography gear – both in terms of thousands of dollars and countless nighttime hours – seemed daunting, especially juggling a busy career and growing family.
Then, in 2023, an ad for the Dwarf II popped up. It was a lightbulb moment! Here was an inexpensive, accessible little scope promising an easier path into the hobby I loved. I jumped in, and boy, was I right! Out of the box, I was capturing the moon, and after a surprisingly short learning curve, I was imaging star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies.
The real magic happened when I married the Dwarf's captures with my deep knowledge of graphic tools – suddenly, pulling incredible detail out of the images became an exciting new challenge. With the arrival of the Dwarf 3 in 2024 and Dwarflab's continuous software improvements, the possibilities just keep expanding, inspiring me to push my own captures further!
Dwarfvision is born from this journey. It's intended as a "collective launchpad" – a place focused specifically on what we can achieve with these remarkable Dwarf telescopes. Astrophotography has never been more accessible, and my mission is to share what I learn, foster our collective understanding, and build a helpful resource for this growing community. I believe in sharing knowledge – the practical tips and tricks that make a real difference – and learning together as we explore.
In this 'Dwarfer's' hub, you'll find:
Actionable Image Processing Techniques: Leveraging my graphics background, I share workflows (often using tools like SIRIL, RC ASTRO, Photoshop, and Lightroom) to tackle common challenges and truly maximize the beauty hidden in your Dwarf captures.
Target Spotlights: We'll hunt down fantastic deep-sky targets suited for the Dwarf's wide field – from sprawling nebulae like Orion's M42 and galaxies like Andromeda's M31 to sparkling star clusters and even dark nebulae like the haunting Horse Head– highlighting what's visible throughout the seasons.
Chasing Cosmic Events: Stay updated on transient events like visiting comets or asteroids passing near deep-sky objects, with tips on how and when Dwarf users can best observe them.
Beyond the Basics: A deeper dive into the tricks of shooting with the Dwarfs to pull out the best details, making the post-processing much easier and more rewarding.
This site is for you – whether you're just unboxing your first Dwarf telescope, or just about any "smart scope", looking to improve your processing skills, or simply curious about what these mighty little scopes can do. You are the "Dwarfer's"! I encourage you to:
